In June 2017, I wrote a blog about kitchen remodel trends.  This article has brought the most readers of any other blog.  Now that we are getting close to 2022, I wanted to write a kitchen remodel trends part 2 called Remodeling the Kitchen.

From asking various people in many parts of the United States, there were many similar answers to remodeling the kitchen.  These are the 6 top ways of remodeling the kitchen:

  1. Smart appliances. There’s an app for everything.  App for the fridge.  App for the dishwasher.  App for the oven.  Smart appliances are a huge trend for remodeling the kitchen.
  2. Wood butcherblock countertops. There are various types of wood and their finishes.  A butcherblock countertop is typically more resilient than a standard countertop.
  3. Walk-in pantry. Imagine being able to open your cupboards and nothing fell out because it’s spread out in the pantry!  A walk-in pantry can also feel like being in a grocery store.
  4. Green hues. Think green hues in back splashes.  Green hues in the decorative accents.  Grayish greens, bluish greens, dark greens are a color scheme trend for remodeling the kitchen.
  5. Island. Great for storage, eating space, cooking space, and even have the sink, dishwasher, and/or stove here.
  6. Most of all, people want their kitchens to look like it came out of a magazine. While remodeling the kitchen, keep in mind the saw dust and paint splatters are one more step closer to a beautiful end result.  Pictures in magazines have been photo-shopped and have pristine lighting.  Your end result won’t look exactly like the pictures in a magazine, therefore remember what key features stood out to implement in your own project.

When putting together plans for remodeling the kitchen, there’s other factors to consider.  Remember your budget and how the remodel will be funded.  Is this a project that has been saved up for many years, therefore ready to put those hard-earned funds towards remodeling the kitchen?  Is this project going to need a loan from a financial institution?  Was someone extra generous with a lump sum of money as a gift?  The cost of supplies, labor, and interest to pay back the loan will add up fast.

Perhaps another alternative is to keep the kitchen in current condition.  Sometimes homeowners feel like they must spend money to make money when selling their house.  Tip to think about: when improvements are done to a property, the property taxes will increase.  What if the house doesn’t appraise for the value the homeowner was hoping, therefore the sale price is less than expected?  This scenario could be a reason to keep the kitchen in current condition.
